Claymon Laboratories was founded in 1991 to meet a requirement in Irish healthcare for a quality-driven central clinical laboratory to provide a first class service to those seeking additional laboratory facilities to compliment their own, or for clients looking for a full clinical laboratory service. Since that time, Claymon has evolved into the leading private sector provider of referral clinical pathology services to healthcare professionals throughout Ireland.
Recently accredited to ISO’s 15189 medical testing standard, our facility in Dublin employs over 70 dedicated professionals and currently provides analyses with rapid turnaround times in the following disciplines:
- Clinical Biochemistry

In 1999, Claymon became proud members of the internationally renowned Biomnis Group. Now, together with our sister laboratories in Lyon, Paris and Bordeaux, and covering all Biomedical disciplines, the Biomnis group offers over 2,000 clinical assays accredited to internationally recognised ISO standards and processes over 20,000 specimens per day. Coupled to our own medical pathologist support services, sample logistics management and novel information exchange solutions, Claymon Laboratories and the Biomnis group is the preferred laboratory partner of over 90% of Irish Hospitals.
In 2002, Claymon added our own diagnostic and infectious specimen transport service that fully complies with ADR guidelines and with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Legislation. We employ our own dangerous goods safety advisors (DGSA) and our 24 dedicated and temperature controlled specimen transport vehicles are used not only to transport specimens to Claymon Laboratories but also for inter-hospital deliveries and transportation of samples for GP Practices. Claymon Laboratories establishes and controls the logistics of transportation, to ensure that patient samples are delivered promptly and under the correct controlled temperature.
Information Technology plays an ever increasing role in the evolution of Pathology services. Claymon’s connectivity solutions provide hospital laboratories with a variety of information exchange options to meet their specific operational and patient care needs. Our connectivity solutions include:
- PC (Windows-based) electronic ordering and result reporting
- Internet-based result inquiry
- Full Laboratory information systems (LIS) to LIS Integration
Together, Claymon and Irish hospitals continue to build strategic partnerships that augment and enhance local pathology services, reduce costs and improve patient care. Claymon Laboratories offers an accredited cost effective, professional and reliable clinical laboratory service with a range of Diagnostic Pathology services including hospital referrals (both public and private) with rapid turn-around of results, full clinical laboratory analysis (over 2000 assays available) and occupational health and lifestyle screening. Organisations now recognise that inappropriate use of drugs and alcohol by employees can cause serious harm to their colleagues, affect productivity and ultimately damage their profitability. However, tackling substance misuse in the workplace can be an arduous and often complex process.
Here at Claymon Laboratories, we can offer companies a complete solution. Our highly trained and experienced staff can offer policy advice, staff training & education, specimen collection & transport, and analysis all under one roof. With over 14 years experience in the field of drugs of abuse and alcohol analysis, we have the knowledge, expertise and products to guide and support you.
Whether your policy includes screening for drugs of abuse or alcohol, we have a range of high quality products to suit your needs. The American Bio Medica Corporation (ABMC™) testing kits allow you to screen for up to 10 drugs and drug groups simultaneously. Kits can be made to order to allow our clients to customise their drug testing programme to be more in line with local trafficking and drug use trends.
The Lion Alcolmeter® allows for immediate onsite screening for alcohol in the breath with an instant duplicated printout of the result. This user friendly breathalyser allows for rapid, accurate determination of alcohol level, enabling the client company to respond immediately to safety critical situations. The vision for Claymon Laboratories is to build upon our current scientific and operational strengths in order to enhance our reputation as a leader in Clinical Laboratory Medicine. Our plan is to develop across six key strategic areas which we believe will make Claymon Laboratories the preferred provider of private Clinical Pathology services in Ireland. They are:
- Pathology Services:
To continue to provide and develop comprehensive, high quality and cost effective pathology and diagnostic support services that facilitate optimal patient care in both Public and Private Hospital settings.
- Pathology Leadership:
To provide pathology leadership and enhance Claymon Laboratories and the LMM group’s position as the major provider of routine and specialised private clinical laboratory services in Ireland.
- Education:
To provide clinical scientific education that enhances the knowledge base and skill-sets of clients and our own staff. This focus will enable us to continue to attract high quality staff and establish Claymon Laboratories as a Centre of Excellence.
- Research:
To ensure that leadership in private laboratory medicine is maintained through the appropriate investment of resources in research programs that are consistent with the strategic direction of Claymon Laboratories and the Biomnis group.
- Information Technology Systems:
To ensure that our information technology systems are structured such that laboratory operations are efficient. In addition, using proven technologies, to ensure data is made available in a convenient and flexible manner to support patient care.
- Organisational Management:
To continue to develop an organisation that has clear goals, with clear accountability and performance criteria, and in which our staff are motivated to deliver the company’s clinical laboratory testing, education, research and consultation in an integrated way.
In 1999, Claymon Laboratories became proud members of the internationally renowned Biomnis group.
The Biomnis group was formed by the merger of the Marcel Mérieux Foundation and the Pasteur Institute in Lyon, France. The laboratory is over 100 years old, and is one of Europe’s leading specialist clinical laboratories, with 20 medical pathologists and a staff of more than 400 highly qualified scientists and technologists. Located at the heart of Lyon’s science park, it benefits from an academic environment of the very highest calibre. It is also the home of the renowned top security P4 Jean Mérieux laboratory - a leading research laboratory for the study of highly contagious viruses.
Biomnis is essentially a referral laboratory, which conducts very rare and highly specialized clinical analyses, in which leading specialists use sophisticated instrumentation to carry out a range of state-of-the-art techniques (for example HPLC, GC, atomic absorption, RIA, viral culture and molecular biology techniques).
The Biomnis Group currently comprises the Laboratoire Marcel Mérieux in Lyon, Laboratoire Claude-Levy in Paris & Laboratoire Ruffié in Bordeaux. The LMM group offers over 2,000 clinical assays across all pathology disciplines, processes over 20,000 specimens per day and employs a staff of over 800 medical scientists and 70 medical pathologists.
